Happy almost-Friday!

First off, I have to apologize in advance for the poor quality of these photos. We have been running nonstop and have had practically zero time to get out for a proper photo shoot, so unfortunately I had to squeeze in a 15-minute session with my garage door as a backdrop. Booooring. I’m hoping we can find some time this weekend to get in a proper shoot and give you something slightly more interesting to look at!

Anyway.

The mom uniform, or “momiform” as it’s frequently referred to, is something that I have discussed in previous posts. This subject is a bit of a pain point for many moms, I think, because it can be difficult to find a go-to look that is stylish and makes us feel badass while still being comfortable and functional while we chase babies around.

It becomes even more difficult when we end up cramming our closets with pieces that we “loooove” and/or found on the clearance rack but have only worn once for a special occasion. I have more of those pieces than I’d like to admit! Having a capsule wardrobe, or a curated wardrobe helps a ton with this, but that’s a topic for another time.

Something that I do to help ease the stress of picking an outfit is to come up with “outfit formulas.” For example, I find a combination of pieces that works, and then copy that with other outfits. This is really more about the silhouette or fit of the pieces rather than the fabric or color/print.

For Volume One of my fall momiform, I’m focusing on a really easy way to amp up the chic factor on a casual fall outfit. The secret is simple: just slip on some heeled booties.

Fall momiform outfit formula #1:

Slouchy sweater + jeans + heeled booties

I chose a pink striped sweater with medium-wash high-waisted skinny jeans and a pair of suede shooties. I also styled these shooties last spring with a pair of olive jeans and an ivory sweater, But really, you could make this combo work with pretty much any combination of colors/prints/textures. You could go all black if you’re feeling particularly moody, or grab a nice chunky cable-knit sweater with some cognac suede booties for maximum fall vibes.

The best thing about this formula is that you can really take it anywhere: to the grocery store, out to dinner, to work (if you don’t have a dress code). It really just depends on the individual pieces you pick and how you decide to accessorize.

Here’s three variations on this formula to give you some outfit inspiration:

These are just a few examples but you can really do anything with this formula. And if you need some more inspiration, I just posted about all my favorite new booties for fall. Scroll on down for the details on the outfit I showed you above!

Also, in the spirit of complete honesty, here’s a photo of what it looks like when you’re trying to do one of those cute “jump in the air poses” that all the good bloggers do (like this), and then your camera dies. —> —> —> WOW

Pay no mind to the fact that this photo is also completely overexposed. Thank you, random ray of sunshine!

This is an accurate representation of what I look like 85% of the time.

FML.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week. Have an amazing weekend, and I’ll see y’all on Tuesday!

Much Love,

Michelle
